KC Gray Sieber
Mahjong Instructor
KC Siebert is retired but she stays busy as a traveler, teacher, artist, jeweler, and mahjong player. She played her first tournament and won in 1995 and in her most recent tournament in 2025 she came in last place after listening to a professional tell an audience how they should play. Shocking, isn’t it; and yet I learned from that. Play your game!!!
She was invited to take over the San Diego Mahjong MEET UP after moving to CA in ’18 and we tripled the number of the members. We had games running seven days a week all over the county in restaurants, recreation centers, shops, beach clubs.
KC is so excited to share with you some strategies and skills. It is a game of luck, patience and waiting for the winning tile, without giving off tells.
It is, as you know a game of concentration with the main rule “being if you can't win, no one else should” – Play Defensively.
Listening is key, calling the tile correctly on discarding and watching the tile hit the table, are all important skills.
Some of the things she will mention will seem like old school, you may say “my teacher taught me that.” She may word it differently than they did and the lightbulb may go off inside your head and some of you will go Ah Ha!
